Sometimes, we get an unfairly narrow idea of what our ‘education’ is; school, and college or whatever, is surely an important part – but let’s not forget how we learn from nature, from things and people around us, and, indeed, from every aspect of our own experience. I think this statement sums it up neatly:
“I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.”

I am very much of the opinion that the most important part of school, is the social skills you learn. You learn about people, emotions, interaction, consequence, morals, manners, empathy and so many other things, i couldn’t possibly list them all. I always thought I learnt more from the experience of school, than from the lessons, and more from life itself, than from school.
As a child I missed a full year of school whilst on Chemotherapy, but my oh my, I learnt SO much more in that year than I ever could have at school. I learnt about human biology, cancer, friendships, family bonds, emotional strength, emotional weakness, pain, fear, other peoples perceptions and so much more. I also read a lot and awakened my imagination and my creativity through play. I never fell behind and I continued school as though I had never been away, just with a wiser head upon my shoulders.

I have always considered home schooling my children as school isn’t the only way a child can be and is able to socialise with others and this post is a key factor as to why! Love it
