Tiny LeavesLooking for something colourful today, I found these tiny leaves, autumnal and yet uplifting, with their stunning combination of shape and line, together with vivid colour. They are only small – this is, once again, a macro shot. It’s all about using these… [author points to eyes]

A Wet AutumnI found this only today (Sunday.) I didn’t have any very interesting photos this week, owing to pressure of work, and was wondering what to post! This seemed to shout “A mild, wet autumn day” so effectively. (By the way, I didn’t rearrange those leaves – that’s how they were!)

Just a DropletQuite often, pictures really are about noticing the moment, and recording the beauty. This water drop, hanging from a seed-head, arrested my attention one morning this week. For this picture, I’ve cropped down the original image, leaving enough background to harmonise with the reflection in the droop itself.

MSP150830Summer seems to have been very erratic, this year. Yes, there have been lovely days, but a lot of periods of unsettled weather and rain, too. MSP150726Yesterday (Saturday) gave me the chance to escape into the countryside, where the warm weather had brought these little creatures out in force!
High light levels make it easier to photograph them, as it is then possible to use a fast shutter setting and a small aperture; depth of field – the distance zone which will be in focus – is mush shallower at these close focusing settings.
You’ll notice these two bees were happy to share one flower; maybe humans have a bit to learn!

MSP150510Old walls, like this one, fascinate me. This is actually part of an old railway bridge. Trains passing underneath might have taken troops, or supplies, on the first part of their journey to France in 1914. In contrast, we’re looking at this year’s new growth of ivy (the paler leaves.)

Those bricklayers knew how to build, all right. It just saddens me that they had to do that work for a pittance. But that is another story.
