  1. That’s random! Some sort of roadworks, but can’t tell if it’s cable or pipe?!

    1. First, they use the thin threading rope to drag in a thick hemp rope. This, in turn, is used to drag in a steel hawser, by winch! Then the hawser is connected to the end of the cable and winched back! A single pull can be over a kilometre! This one was about 700 metres. There are two 132kV circuits of three cables each, so that’s six lengths of this stuff between Willington and Derby. The cost must be eye-watering!
