Beech 18 AircraftWhen I drove into the Leicestershire countryside yesterday, I knew nothing about this aircraft. I had stopped to eat, when I first heard, then saw it. I grabbed my camera, which fortunately had a long focal length zoom lens already fitted! Out of a few shots, I think this is the best, as the underside of the fuselage caught the sun in quite a spectacular manner.
It turns out that this machine is a Beech 18, registered in this country as G-BKGL. It was built some time during World War 2, and re-manufactured in 1951! It was participating in the Midlands Air Festival this weekend.

Trees in FlowerAlthough I love the spring sunshine, rain can, in its own way, be lovely too. I actually find walking in the rain very therapeutic – as long as I don’t get too soaked! This was what I saw yesterday evening. I loved the scent of the flowers on the trees, as well as the abundance of sheer shape and line, including the patterns made by the rain on the path. A great way to unwind…

Apple BlossomThe last couple of weeks or so have made a tremendous difference to gardens, as we might expect, given some warmer weather at last! All kinds of blossom are around us – on fruit trees, wild shrubs, and ornamental trees. I somehow never tire of apple blossom, though. The delicate blend of magenta and white complemented by the green of the leaves, and of course the scent, which I sadly can’t share in a photograph!

MagnoliaI’ve always loved to see magnolia flowers in spring, but only recently have I come across this stellated kind, which also has a lovely scent. Most flowers can help to lift one’s mood, but this one appeals because of its delicate structure – it seems to symbolise a certain gentleness, somehow. It is also unbelievably white, almost dazzling by day!

Derbyshire in the RainToday, in Derbyshire, it rained. That’s not always a bad thing. Misty rain adds a strange, almost surreal, depth to pictures, especially at certain times of the year. Tree shapes take on a depth caused by the relative distance of trees from the camera. When you are actually there, alone, you can experience a sense of quiet awe.

Magenta HyacinthI’ve always loved flowers that have a scent, so I was pleased to find this hyacinth in flower today. I love this colour, too, although it’s hard to have a favourite colour when it comes to hyacinths. I’m afraid I can’t give you the scent over the internet! Lots of other flowers are coming out now, which is great for lifting the mood.

Water Tanker at NightYesterday, I woke up to find that I was without one of the commodities that most of us in the Western world take for granted: water from our taps. It transpired that this was the result of a large main having burst. The necessary repair was no five-minute job, and the main supplies a small local reservoir for my area. Hence, this was the scene near where I live, yesterday evening. Water brought by tankers was being pumped into the local mains through a hydrant, so as to temporarily restore the supply. Being without water for several hours was an inconvenience, but it made me think of how many people in other parts of the world still have to travel for miles, every day, in order to get water!
